PTI Seeks Constructive Dialogue with All Political Parties: Chairman
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar stated that his party cannot participate in discussions with the government merely for “photo sessions” without the formation of a judicial commission.
Speaking to the media outside the Judicial Complex in Islamabad, Gohar revealed that PTI had given the government a seven-day deadline to announce the establishment of the commission.
“The commission was supposed to determine the inclusion of judges and set the terms of reference (TORs), but the government’s silence clearly reflects their lack of intent,” he asserted.
Expressing frustration, Gohar highlighted the “injustices” PTI has faced, alleging that their mandate was stolen and that many lawyers associated with the party faced terrorism charges.
He noted that PTI, under the leadership of its founder Imran Khan, approached negotiations with sincerity despite significant reservations.
“Our founder called for talks on two demands, demonstrating great openness by initiating the first committee himself,” Gohar stated. However, the government’s inaction and lack of response showed their unwillingness to engage in meaningful dialogue.
Gohar stressed that PTI seeks constructive negotiations with all political parties but will not compromise on its core demands.
The party called off the negotiation process after the government delayed the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9, 2023, protests and the crackdown on party workers in Islamabad on November 26 last year.
The following day, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government expressed willingness to continue the dialogue process but clarified that they would not plead with PTI to resume talks.
