Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Personally Lead Task Force
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced the formation of a special task force to tackle human trafficking networks, following a series of tragic migrant boat incidents involving Pakistanis.
“We will bring the perpetrators of human trafficking to justice,” the premier stated while chairing a meeting to review anti-trafficking measures.
The PM directed all relevant departments, including the foreign ministry, to identify and take swift action against human traffickers.
During the meeting, the PM was briefed on the six identified trafficking groups, 12 registered FIRs, and 25 suspects, with three key arrests already made. Additionally, 16 names were added to the passport control list. Details regarding asset seizures and actions against complicit officials were also shared.
The move comes in response to recent tragedies, including a capsized boat off Morocco’s coast, which carried 66 Pakistanis and resulted in at least 50 fatalities.
The PM emphasized the importance of exemplary punishments for traffickers, underlining the nation’s collective grief over these heartbreaking losses.
