Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah announced on Tuesday that a sub-committee has been formed by the government’s negotiation committee to respond to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) charter of demands.
The statement was made following a meeting chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq at the Parliament House in Islamabad. Sanaullah stated, “We will provide the government’s response to the opposition in the next meeting,” adding that the committee is currently reviewing the opposition party’s demands.
When questioned about former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s seven-day deadline, Sanaullah mentioned that the opposition is free to make statements and decisions, but the government will submit its written reply.
He emphasized that dialogue is a crucial aspect of democracy and that issues should be resolved through discussion rather than deadlock.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui, spokesperson for the government’s negotiation committee, revealed that the committee reviewed PTI’s demands but did not reach a final decision on forming a judicial commission.
PTI’s demands include inquiries into the May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024, events, as well as the release of its leader Imran Khan and other detained party members. The party has stated that if these demands are not met, it will withdraw from negotiations.
Rana Sanaullah added that the National Assembly Speaker will be approached to schedule the next meeting with the opposition on January 28.
