As soon as Donald Trump took office, he signed several major executive orders, canceling 78 presidential actions made by former President Joe Biden.
Following his inauguration, a ceremony was held at Capital One Arena, attended by a large number of Trump’s supporters, where various agencies, including the police, saluted the newly elected president.
Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, also spoke at the event and introduced the families of Israeli hostages.
At this event, President Trump signed multiple executive orders and also annulled 78 of Biden’s presidential actions. According to the White House, Trump signed an order pardoning 1,500 individuals involved in the Capitol attack.
The President also signed an order freezing federal employee hiring, revoked the work-from-home option for federal employees, and ordered the U.S. to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. Additionally, Trump annulled Biden’s executive order related to artificial intelligence policy.
Trump also canceled Biden’s target of 50% electric vehicle sales by 2030. Other executive orders signed by Trump included measures concerning border control, immigration, and declaring cartels as terrorist organizations. He also declared a national emergency at the southern border.
Trump signed an order prioritizing the U.S. in international environmental agreements, provided emergency relief to American families against rising costs, and rescinded a policy that allowed the federal government to arm political opponents.
Additionally, Trump announced the creation of a transitional cabinet, where members will serve until formal appointments are made. He also signed an executive order aimed at ending censorship and promoting freedom of speech.
Trump also signed an executive order regarding TikTok, stating that the U.S. could either buy or ban the app. If the deal goes through, the U.S. would obtain 50% ownership, or else tariffs may be imposed on China.
Trump ordered the Justice Department to end all pending cases related to the January 6th Capitol attack and also signed an order to withdraw from the World Health Organization.
In his speech, Trump mentioned that he would grant amnesty to many, including those involved in the January incidents. He also stated plans to reverse offshore drilling bans imposed by the previous administration and cancel at least 80 “destructive” executive orders from Biden’s term.
Trump emphasized that he would take all possible measures to combat inflation, reduce the number of civil servants, and halt the hiring of IRS agents. He also expressed intentions to meet with Russian President Putin, though he did not specify when.
Furthermore, Trump said the U.S. would stop buying oil from Venezuela, and he expressed surprise that Biden had granted amnesty to his entire family. He argued that signing numerous executive orders on the first day was not authoritarian.
News outlets reported that the U.S. Senate confirmed Marco Rubio as the new Secretary of State. According to the White House, Lisa Kenna will serve as Secretary of State, and Robert Selby will take on the role of Secretary of Defense.
It is important to note that on Monday, Donald Trump took the oath of office and became the 47th President of the United States, with Chief Justice John Roberts administering the oath.
