Constitutional Court to Hold Second Hearing to Decide Whether to Uphold Yoon’s Impeachment
South Korea’s impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol faced renewed questioning Thursday, a day after his dramatic arrest related to his failed martial law declaration. However, his lawyers confirmed that he would not participate in the questioning.
The Constitutional Court was preparing for its second hearing to decide whether to uphold Yoon’s impeachment, following his historic detention as the country’s first sitting president to be arrested.
Yoon was questioned for hours on Wednesday but exercised his right to remain silent before being transferred to a detention center.
During Wednesday’s arrest, hundreds of police officers and investigators bypassed bus barricades, cut barbed wire, and managed to enter Yoon’s compound where he was surrounded by security guards.
Yoon later claimed that he had cooperated with investigators to avoid “bloodshed,” but he did not accept the legality of the investigation.
