WhatsApp is testing a new feature for iOS beta users that enhances link previews by displaying the favicon—a small graphic or logo representing the website. This update aims to make shared links more visually appealing and easily identifiable.
Favicons, commonly used in web browsers, will now appear in WhatsApp conversations, helping users quickly associate links with their sources. According to WABetaInfo, this feature is designed to improve the link-sharing experience across both iOS and Android platforms.
Recognizing a website by its logo is quicker than reading the domain name for most users. This addition provides a more intuitive way to verify links from trusted sources.
However, favicons are only visual cues and don’t guarantee a website’s safety or authenticity. Malicious sites can use misleading favicons to trick users. Therefore, users are advised to verify domain names and assess links carefully, especially from unknown sources.
Currently, the feature is available to select iOS beta testers via the TestFlight app. A broader rollout is expected soon. To access this feature when it becomes available, ensure your app is regularly updated.
