Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to Europe as a significant achievement, expressing confidence that the airline will soon regain its former status.
Flights to Europe
During a federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister announced that PIA’s first flight to Paris had already departed, and flights to the UK would also be resumed shortly. He praised the efforts of cabinet members, especially Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Minister for Investment Board, Communications, and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan.
Challenges Faced by PIA
The Prime Minister highlighted the challenges faced by PIA, particularly mentioning that statements made by the PTI government’s aviation minister caused severe economic losses, the effects of which are now being mitigated.
Economic Measures and Security Situation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced the opening of the Pakistan-Iran border crossing at Panjgur, which will boost legal trade and curb smuggling. He mentioned ongoing anti-terrorism operations, stating that 27 terrorists had been eliminated in recent operations in Balochistan.
He confirmed the formation of a task force to reduce electricity prices and the ongoing negotiations with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to address energy concerns. The Prime Minister clarified the role of GENCOs, emphasizing that their responsibility is not just to collect capacity payments.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the government’s commitment to economic stability, improved security, and the restoration of public trust.
