Richard Fewkes, Becky Riggs, and Gabrielle Shaw denounce fake news attacks on Pakistanis by Elon Musk.
London: The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has stated that the majority of grooming gang offences are carried out by white men, following false accusations made by X billionaire owner Elon Musk against British-Pakistani men.
Police data reveals that, in the first three quarters of 2024, 85% of “group-based” child abusers were white. The same data for 2023 showed 83% of offenders were white.
Richard Fewkes, director of the NPCC’s Hydrant program, emphasized that there is no “significant issue” with any particular ethnicity or setting.
Fewkes’ remarks came after Elon Musk used his social media platform to launch an online campaign against the UK government, making false allegations against Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had ensured that grooming gang offenders were prosecuted during his time as head of the Crown Prosecution Service.
He said, “This data reflects what you’d expect to see across the country in terms of ethnicity. Offences where grooming gangs are involved are predominantly white. There is no significant issue with any particular ethnicity or setting.”
The NPCC added that this data, collected for the first time in this manner, would now be used to guide the training of new officers and help chiefs at a “force-based level.”
Recent debates have focused on Pakistani grooming gangs, with some calling for an inquiry into child rape by Pakistani men. However, the data consistently shows that white men are the majority of offenders in these crimes.
