Despite Govt’s Openness, PTI’s Actions Raise Concerns
Negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have officially commenced to address national issues and restore political stability, but PTI’s ongoing anti-state rhetoric complicates the process.
The government’s initiative to open dialogue with PTI marks a significant step toward reconciliation, aiming to reduce political tensions, uphold democratic principles, and foster national unity.
The Army Chief’s recent pardon of 19 PTI workers involved in the May 9 riots is seen as a goodwill gesture to create a conducive atmosphere for talks.

While the government has shown willingness, PTI’s actions continue to raise concerns. The party’s activists are running a campaign targeting state institutions on social media while avoiding submitting a written charter of demands, fearing political backlash.
PTI’s key demands include the release of its leader Imran Khan and other members, alongside forming a judicial commission to probe the May 9 and November 26 incidents. Government representatives, however, emphasize ensuring decisions remain consistent with constitutional principles and the rule of law.
The government has reiterated that accountability for the May 9 riots is essential for national security and protecting state institutions.
