The year 2025 ushers in a new generation — Generation Beta — with its members born from this year through 2039. Many from Gen Beta will live into the 22nd century, witnessing significant technological advancements and challenging climate crises, more than their predecessors. According to Axios, this generation will be the second largest cohort, following Gen Alpha — born from 2010 to 2024 — with an estimated 2.1 billion people.
Mark McCrindle, founder of McCrindle Research, who coined the term “Generation Alpha,” said Beta will be the second largest generation, expected to make up about 16% of the world’s population by 2035.
Jean Twenge, author of “Generations: The Real Differences Between Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Boomers and Silents — and What They Mean for America’s Future,” notes that the boundaries between generations become clearer as each cohort grows older.
Generative AI defines the moment when Betas enter the world, shaping how they experience and interact with technology. For Gen Z, it was social media, while for Gen Alpha, it is virtual worlds like Minecraft or Roblox.
Additionally, Gen Beta is expected to witness significant demographic shifts during its lifetime, as global fertility rates decrease and life expectancy increases.
“As Gen Betas come of age, discussions will shift from overpopulation to population sustainability,” McCrindle said.
