Indian police have claimed to have killed three Sikh separatists fighting for “Khalistan,” a movement linked to violence in the 1980s and 1990s.
According to police, the incident occurred in the Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh, where a gun battle ensued between security forces and suspected separatists. The suspects were allegedly involved in a recent grenade attack on a police outpost. Police recovered two assault rifles, two pistols, and ammunition during the operation.
The Khalistan movement is a contentious issue in India, advocating for a separate homeland for Sikhs. The movement has been associated with several significant events, including the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the bombing of a passenger jet.
In India, the Khalistan movement is considered a terrorist activity, and strict actions are taken against its supporters to maintain law and order. In recent years, India has conducted multiple operations against supporters of this movement to ensure peace and stability.
