On May 9, 2023, after attacks on key military installations in the country, military courts sentenced 25 individuals involved to various terms of imprisonment. Defense experts and analysts have expressed diverse opinions on this decision.
Brigadier (R) Rasheed Wali praised the military courts’ verdicts, stating that the punishments serve as a lesson for the convicts and are crucial in preventing such incidents in the future. He further emphasized that the masterminds who orchestrated the use of these individuals should also be brought to justice.
Major General (R) Zahid Mahmood regarded the decision as significant, emphasizing that political leaders must ensure their followers refrain from such actions. He added that the convicted individuals have legal rights and can appeal their sentences.
Brigadier (R) Haris Nawaz stressed the importance of holding the masterminds accountable for exploiting these individuals. He reiterated that those who orchestrated the actions must also face consequences.
Brigadier (R) Sarfaraz Ahmed echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the need to punish the true planners who manipulated the convicts for their agendas.
