Islamabad: Syrian rebels have taken control of the capital, Damascus, pushing President Bashar al-Assad’s government to the brink of collapse. The rebels claim that Assad’s rule has now ended.
Reports indicate that shortly after the city fell, President Assad flew out of Damascus, with his destination unknown. Celebrations erupted in the streets, with thousands chanting for freedom.
With strongholds like Homs and Aleppo also falling to rebel forces, Assad’s regime faces a critical and possibly final threat to its survival.
