President-elect Donald Trump has announced his decision to appoint former Senator David Perdue as the U.S. Ambassador to China. This decision comes in an effort to strengthen U.S.-China relations amid ongoing trade tensions and mutual distrust.
Perdue, a Republican from Georgia, who served in the Senate from 2015 to 2021, has had a 40-year career as a business executive, including time spent in Hong Kong, and will bring his experience to navigate the complicated relationship with China.
Trump also indicated his plans to impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods unless China takes stronger actions to curb fentanyl trafficking.
