Vatican City: Pope Francis has received a new electric popemobile from Mercedes-Benz, designed to match his commitment to climate action. The vehicle, a modified version of the Mercedes G-Class, is equipped with an electric motor tailored for the low speeds required during public appearances.
This gift aligns with Pope Francis’ environmental advocacy, as he has long called for global cooperation to address the climate crisis. The new popemobile is a significant step, marking the first electric vehicle provided to the Vatican in the past 45 years of collaboration with Mercedes-Benz.
Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, emphasized the honor of manufacturing vehicles for the papacy.
