Islamabad: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has declared gender transition surgeries without medical necessity forbidden in Islam. Chairman Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi stated that such procedures are only permissible for ambiguous biological sexes.
He highlighted that adopting features of the opposite sex contradicts Shariah, attributing it to psychological issues like “gender dysphoria,” which require awareness and treatment.
Parents were advised to support children with birth defects, ensuring they remain part of the family. The term “transgender” should be replaced with “intersex” to clarify distinctions.
Religious scholars emphasized that self-perceived gender identity is a major sin with no basis in Islamic teachings.
