Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may be known for his muscular physique, but even he needs a little help to look his best sometimes. After images surfaced from the set of the live-action adaptation of Moana, Johnson confirmed that he wears a bodysuit for his portrayal of Maui.
In a conversation with Extra, Johnson, who reprises his role from the animated film, opened up about the process behind his physical transformation for the movie. He explained that he couldn’t take all the credit for how buff he appears in the upcoming film.
“That’s a suit that took a long time to put on,” Johnson shared. “So, I’m happy you said, ‘You bulked up,’ because when you say, ‘You bulked up,’ that means you couldn’t tell.”
The actor revealed that it takes a few hours each day to get into the suit, which is essential to achieving his muscular look. He also mentioned the challenges of keeping the costume under wraps, saying, “We shot outside and when those pictures surfaced, I was like, ‘S**t, we got caught, because we were putting up, like, walls so there was no paparazzi.’ But they got into boats and started shooting pictures. So, but I’m happy you liked it.”
The live-action Moana film, set to release in 2026, follows the success of its animated counterpart and the sequel Moana 2, which is currently performing strongly at the box office.
