Salman Akram Raja, Secretary-General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has rescinded his resignation following the party’s decision not to accept it.
PTI Information Secretary Waqas Akram confirmed the development, stating, “Yes, he has withdrawn his resignation, as the party did not accept it and asked him to continue in his role.” Waqas also noted that Salman Akram Raja recently attended a meeting of the party’s political committee.
Raja had initially stepped down after facing criticism for his absence at a protest march from Lahore to Islamabad. He had been unable to join the convoy due to stringent security measures, including roadblocks and bridge closures, which restricted his movement.
In a video statement addressing the controversy, Raja explained his position, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and genuine participation. He remarked, “I do not believe in symbolic gestures or theatrics, such as showing up at D-Chowk merely for photo opportunities. It is important to remain honest about what one can and cannot do.”
The abrupt conclusion of PTI’s much-publicized “do-or-die” protest on November 27 led to several resignations, including that of Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza. The protest ended after a government crackdown that resulted in the arrest of nearly 1,000 PTI workers.
Despite this turbulence, the party’s leadership urged Salman Akram Raja to reconsider, highlighting his significance in the party’s organizational structure and ongoing initiatives.
