Location: Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, India
The Shocking Incident
A 25-year-old man in Rajasthan, India, woke up on a funeral pyre just moments before it was about to be set alight, after a doctor made a grave error by skipping a postmortem examination. The man, Rohitash Kumar, who had hearing and speaking difficulties, was taken to a hospital in Jhunjhunu on Thursday after falling ill.
Misdiagnosis and Mistaken Death
Indian media reports revealed that Kumar had suffered an epileptic seizure, and upon arrival at the hospital, a doctor declared him dead. However, instead of conducting the required postmortem to determine the cause of death, the medical team sent his body to the mortuary and it was prepared for cremation according to Hindu funeral practices.
Doctor’s Mistake and the Miraculous Wake-up
D Singh, the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, explained that the doctor had prepared a postmortem report without actually performing the postmortem. The body was then sent for cremation. However, shortly before the funeral pyre was to be set on fire, Rohitash’s body began to move, and he was found to be alive, breathing.
Immediate Medical Response and Subsequent Death
Kumar was rushed back to the hospital for treatment, but despite efforts, he was confirmed dead on Friday. In the aftermath, the authorities suspended the services of three doctors involved, and an investigation has been launched by the police.
