US: If Donald Trump were to win the presidential election, the United States’ trade policy, its stance on climate change and on the war in Ukraine, electrical vehicles, taxes, and illegal immigration can expect a shift in direction.
His stance did not go without controversy since many of his proposals would require congressional support, but here is a summary of the policies he has said he would pursue in his second four-year term in office:
Increased tariffs
In terms of Tariffs, Trump has proposed a 10% or more tariff on all imported goods restrict US imports, which he argues, will ultimately end the trade deficit. Some critics argue, it will lead to increased prices for consumers as well as instability in the global economy.
He has also made an indication that he should be allowed to raise tariffs on countries that slapped tariffs on the US imports. He has threatened to impose a 200% tariff on some cars made outside of America and has focused to prevent specifically cars from Mexico getting into America.
Additionally, there had been insinuations that the loyalists to the US, the EU among others, would get higher tariffs placed on them as well.
Trump has specifically set his eyes on China. He plans to eliminate imports of Chinese produced electronics, steel, and pharmaceuticals in a span of four years. He intends to prevent the occurrence of Chinese firms from buying American real estate and energy and tech infra
Trump has said “tariff” is his favorite word and believes “tariffs are a form of income”.
