RAWALPINDI: In a variety of incidents in the garrison city, two teams from the health department conducting dengue surveillance and polio vaccination encountered resistance.
In the first incident, a woman attacked a member of the health department team assigned to dengue surveillance in Munawar Colony.
Shakila Kausar, a Chauntra resident, reported that she was on duty on Thursday on Street No. 10, Munawar Colony, Adiala Road, in an FIR filed with the police.
When she knocked on a house’s door, a woman inside inquired, and when she was informed that they were from the health department’s dengue wing, she refused to let them inside.
After that, the team from the health department left a “refusal” mark on the house’s main door.
Shakila went on to say that as they were moving forward, the woman came out of the house, grabbed her by the neck, and used a marker to make marks on her clothes and face, claiming that she had done the same thing to her face as she had done to the door of her house.
In the FIR, she added that the enraged woman also tore her Abaya and used abusive language toward her.
A police investigation and a case were opened in response to Shakila’s complaint.
In a similar vein, a team distributing polio vaccination drops in Phase VIII of Bahria Town encountered opposition from at least four families who refused to vaccinate their children against the life-threatening disease. After notifying the police, the health team continued their campaign.
