More AI tools that can use computers without human supervision are on the way. It was Anthropic last week, with its Claude AI assistant, and Google has now entered the fray. A report from The Information says that the tech giant is getting ready to launch Project Jarvis, a new AI tool that will make it easier for people to use the internet.
Project Jarvis is a “computer-using agent” that specifically operates within the Google Chrome web browser, according to a The Information report. J.A.R.V.I.S (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System) is an advanced AI assistant that assists Tony Stark in his endeavors as the superhero Iron Man and the (former) CEO of Stark Industries. Google appears to have taken a page from the well-known Tony Stark AI assistant from IronMan. Despite its obvious lack of sophistication, Google’s Project Jarvis will be able to automate a variety of web-based tasks. This includes doing research, buying things, and making reservations for travel.
How is Project Jarvis carried out? It appears to take screenshots of the user’s screen and analyze the images contained within. After that, it interprets the user’s commands to carry out a variety of tasks, such as clicking buttons or filling out text fields. However, Jarvis is not as immediate as OpenAI’s ChatGPT; early reports indicate that it takes several seconds to process each action and is currently operating at a relatively slow pace.
From what we know so far, Google’s newest AI product is driven by the company’s cutting-edge Gemini 2.0 AI model, which makes it easier to interact with web content. Jarvis improves the efficiency of the browsing experience. In the AI industry, which is rapidly becoming increasingly competitive as businesses focus on AI-driven automation, it will be interesting to see how Jarvis competes with similar products. While Anthropic has already made progress in this area, as was mentioned earlier, Microsoft, which is the primary backer of OpenAI, is developing its Copilot Vision. In addition, OpenAI is said to be developing AI models that can communicate with computers and perform repetitive tasks.
Users won’t have to worry about things like doing dissertation research, looking for their favorite books on e-commerce platforms, or even planning a trip once Jarvis is available. Jarvis will take care of all of that and more for them so that customers don’t have to spend hours looking at websites, filling out forms, and deciding which options are best for them. The AI assistant can quickly gather relevant data, compile information on a variety of travel destinations, and assist users in making informed decisions. They no longer have to remember every detail or navigate multiple tabs simultaneously because they can simply direct Jarvis to perform tasks and take over browsing.
