Pakistan• Militants target the residence of a former JUI-F senator in the North Waziristan/Peshawar region: Officials reported that a suicide bombing at a joint police and security forces checkpoint in the Eidak area of the North Waziristan district on Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least eight people, including four police officers and two security officials.
They claimed that the suicide bomber, who was traveling in a rickshaw, blew himself up at the Aslam checkpoint. They added that the attack occurred while personnel were inspecting vehicles.
An official stated, “Four policemen, two security personnel, and two civilians have been martyred.”
Before being airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital in the Bannu district, the injured were initially moved to a hospital in Miramshah.
According to police sources, the explosion caused damage to several vehicles. The road was closed and the area was immediately cordoned off.
The military’s media arm, Inter-Services Public Relations, did not immediately issue a statement.
In the preceding two days, a string of terrorist attacks in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have resulted in the deaths of 15 members of the law enforcement community.
The attack on a checkpoint that claimed the lives of ten Frontier Constabulary soldiers in the Darazinda area of the Dera Ismail Khan district was the deadliest of these.
That attack was claimed by a banned militant group as “revenge” for a military operation in Bajaur earlier in the week that resulted in the deaths of nine militants, including a key leader, Said Mohammad alias Qureshi Ustad, on Wednesday.
Targeted ex-JUI-F senator On Friday night, militants struck the residence of former JUI-F Senator Maulana Mohammad Saleh Shah in the Khaisoor area of the Tiarza tehsil in Upper South Waziristan.
Sources from the police say that unidentified attackers planted a bomb near the house, which did a lot of damage but didn’t kill anyone.
Shams Shah, Mr. Shah’s son, said the attackers wanted to kill him. The family was not hurt when armed men reportedly stormed the house and fired.
According to sources, the attack may have been connected to demands for extortion that Mr. Shah had refused to meet, which is why police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The leader of the JUI-F, who is also president of the South Waziristan Upper Political Alliance, issued a statement to condemn the incident and call on the government and law enforcement agencies to decisively combat extortion and restore peace to the region.
He said that this wasn’t the first time his house was attacked, and he said that he didn’t want to pay extortion.
Condemned President Asif Ali Zardari’s sincere condolences for the civilian and security personnel’s deaths in the North Waziristan suicide attack.
In a statement released by the President’s House, he stated, “Terrorists will never succeed in their evil designs.” He emphasized the importance of eliminating terrorism through all means.
The attack was also strongly condemned by Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the chief minister of KP. Our forces’ resolve will never be weakened by cowardly actions like these. In the fight against militancy, both the people and security personnel have given up a lot, Mr. Gandapur said in a statement.
He added, “The militants will soon be defeated and peace will prevail in the country,” reassuring the general public that the government backs its security forces.
