(Reuters): Following a media report that the federal government was investigating the company, Tether CEO Paolo Adroino stated on Friday that there was “no indication” that the cryptocurrency company was under investigation.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that the federal government was conducting an investigation into Tether for possible violations of sanctions and anti-money laundering regulations.
The WSJ added that the prosecutors at the Manhattan US attorney’s office are in charge of the criminal investigation into Tether.
The Manhattan office of the United States Attorney declined to comment. Calls for clarification were not immediately returned by a Financial Crimes Enforcement Network spokesperson.
