Pakistan : In the midst of an internal investigation into the loyalty of specific lawmakers, PTI MNA Zain Qureshi resigned on Saturday as the party’s deputy parliamentary leader.
The PTI made the decision earlier this week to sue its lawmakers for supporting the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which was clearly against party policy.
At the time, reports that Zain, the son of former PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, was present at the time of the amendment’s passage were denied by Zain. He claimed to be underground in accordance with his father’s instructions.
The PTI claims that the party was unable to get in touch with him. On Tuesday, Zain received a notice of cause.
In a post on X today, he reported: ” I am stepping down from my position as deputy parliamentary leader in recognition of the sentiment of our party’s supporters and my belief in a free and open investigation. I will continue to do so until I earn the trust and confidence of my party and our founding chairman, Imran Khan.
In addition, Zain stated that he had formally responded to his show-cause notice and provided a comprehensive account “in the interest of public transparency for all PTI supporters.”
“I was, am, and will continue to be loyal to my party, leader Imran Khan, and my father and everything he stands for.”
