The star, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested on Thursday night in Broward County, Florida, and is currently being held without bail, according to records obtained by US media.
The arrest comes one day after it was reported that five people with ties to Banks’ hip-hop group Only The Family (OTF) had been charged in Chicago in relation to a shooting in 2022 that resulted in the death of the cousin of rival rapper Quando Rondo. The shooting occurred in 2022.
Since 2019, Lil Durk has had six albums in the top five on the US Billboard chart. He has also worked with top stars like Drake and J Cole on hit singles.
Rap violence The 33-year-old Chicagoan has been nominated for four Grammy Awards. In February, he won the award for best melodic rap performance for All My Life, which featured J Cole.
OTF was founded in 2010 by Lil Durk, and the group is at the center of the drill rap scene in the city.
According to reports from US media, officials claim that the five men charged on Wednesday orchestrated the shooting in Los Angeles in 2022 as direct retaliation for the death in 2020 of emerging rapper King Von, who was signed to OTF.
King Von’s murder was initially committed by a friend of Quando Rondo, but the charges were later dropped. No charges or arrests were made against Quando Rondo.
The new indictment against the five men, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, alleges that an unidentified co-conspirator offered “money and lucrative music opportunities with OTF” to anyone who participated in the murder of Quando Rondo.
A vehicle carrying Quando Rondo, his sister, and his cousin Saviay’a Robinson was allegedly shot at by some of the suspects in 2022.
Robinson passed away, but Quando Rondo and his sister were unharmed.
FBG Duck’s mother reportedly filed a lawsuit earlier this month, claiming that Lil Durk, OTF, and King Von were responsible for the rapper’s death in 2020.
In contrast, Lil Durk was cleared of attempted murder charges two years ago following a non-fatal shooting in Atlanta in 2019.
