Delhi, India: After having heel surgery earlier this year, Mohammed Shami, a pace bowler for India, said he will try to play a couple of domestic matches to get better before the tour of Australia that starts next month.
Shami has not played for the public group since the 50-overs World Cup last against Australia last year.
Before another knee injury kept him out of the three-match series against New Zealand, he had almost recovered fully.
India will expect to have Shami back in their positions as they head to Australia for five Tests one month from now and the 34-year-old was bowling during training on the last day of their most memorable Test against New Zealand on Sunday.
On Monday, when asked if he was pain-free following his surgery in February, Shami told Indian media: 100%.”
The fast bowler, who plays first-class cricket for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, stated, “It felt great yesterday because I had been bowling with half a run-up on and off since I can’t put too much stress on my body,” adding, “It felt great yesterday.”
“Recently, we concluded that I would bowl appropriately, and I gave my 100%. It was enjoyable, and the outcomes are favorable. I hope to get back on track soon.
“I know the kind of attack we want for that Test series against Australia, so it would be best if I spent more time on the ground before going.
“It’s better to play one or two domestic matches before going to Australia if I get fit and have a gap of eight to ten days.”
India’s visit through Australia starts in Perth on Nov. 22.
