BEIRUT: AFP Germany asked Israel to “clarify every incident” involving the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL), including the alleged destruction of a UNIFIL observation tower and fence, on Monday.
An Israeli “army bulldozer deliberately demolished” a UN observation tower and fence in southern Lebanon, UN peacekeepers claimed on Sunday.
In September, Israel claimed it wanted to crush Hezbollah, a powerful political party and armed group, and launched ground and air attacks on Lebanon.
The most recent of the Blue Helmet force’s reported incidents, which have prompted international condemnation, was the subject of Berlin’s “great concern.”
Kathrin Deschauer, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry, stated that the German government anticipates the Israeli side to “clarify every incident” and to release “the results of the investigations into this specific incident.”
She continued, “An operation mandated by the United Nations Security Council and its personnel must not be put in danger.”
The country and its military, according to Israel Katz, have “no intention” of causing harm to the peacekeepers.
Over the past few weeks, UNIFIL has made a number of allegations against Israel alleging that it has attacked its members.
