In Myanmar, the majority Muslim ethnic Rohingya face severe persecution. Every year, thousands of them take perilous and lengthy sea voyages in an effort to reach Malaysia or Indonesia.
Muhammad Jabal, a community leader, stated that the Rohingya boat is anchored approximately three to four miles off the coast of the South Aceh district with its engine turned off. He claimed that he and others saw the boat for the first time on Friday as they set out to deliver food and water to the refugees, estimating that over 100 people were aboard.
“I saw the body with my own eyes. Jabal stated, “The boat also contained a large number of children.”
The body of a Rohingya woman was found at sea the day before the boat was seen. Sabda Man Sobri, the head of the local police, said that she belonged to the ethnic group, but he couldn’t say if she had anything to do with the boat.
