ISLAMABAD: On Friday, opposition members in both houses of parliament continued their protest over the alleged harassment of their lawmakers, emphatically stating that they would never vote for the bill in the current circumstances, in contrast to the government’s claim that they had reached a consensus on a draft bill to amend the constitution.
The members of JUI-F delivered the speeches with the most force, promising not to vote for the amendments bill under “duress.”
A day after the JUI-F emir’s marathon meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PTI leaders, the proclamation was issued. There were also rumors that the party was serving as a link between the PTI and the government.
Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri made a speech in the National Assembly and said that if the government continued to use its “undemocratic and fascist tools” to get votes for the amendments, he would bring people to the streets.
According to Mr. Haideri, “on the one hand, there are talks of reconciliation and on the other hand, opposition members are being abducted.”
“We will never vote, no matter what,” we say, “if you will ask us to vote under compulsion.”
The alleged harassment of party colleagues and family members was also condemned by PTI leaders Ali Muhammad Khan and Aamir Dogar.
They called the amendments “an attack on the Supreme Court” and opposed the idea of a separate constitutional court.
Mr. Khan criticized the government’s decision to strip the top judge of his authority to appoint judges and questioned how there could be two chief justices.
The PTI leader also inquired about the law minister’s source of the proposed amendments, casting doubt on their intentions.
“You can fight with us or talk to us. Mr. Khan asserted, “You talk to us in the daylight, and our family members are being picked up in the night.”
Mr Dogar said on the off chance that the public authority guaranteed that the proposed changes were not “individual explicit” to help the occupant boss equity, then it ought to promptly give the notice of the arrangement of Equity Mansoor Ali Shah as his replacement.
He said PTI had got the last draft and would pursue their choice solely after discussion with its organizer director, Imran Khan.
