The Punjabi superstar Iljit Dosanjh is now the first South Asian artist to be featured on the cover of Billboard Magazine. Dosanjh, a pioneer of the “Punjabi wave,” which combines folk music with rap and hip-hop, will be featured on the cover of Billboard Canada’s first ever print edition, which will be released in December.
Even though Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati tour was marred by controversy over dancers not being paid, it has been deemed one of the most successful tours by a South Asian artist. Presently, Board Canada’s introduction print release will include selective in the background stories from the visit, shared by his chief Sonali Singh, as per Bulletin.
Each of the magazine’s four collectible covers depicts distinct aspects of Dosanjh’s identity and journey. Until December, one cover, which is part of a global Billboard initiative, will remain a surprise. Collectors will also be able to purchase limited signed copies of the special box set, which will include editions in multiple languages to represent his global influence.
Dosanjh delighted fans by announcing that pre-orders for the magazine are now available at his most recent sold-out performance at the O2 Arena in London.
A career of historic firsts The 40-year-old Punjabi singer-actor continues to break barriers for South Asian artists worldwide, and the Billboard cover is just one of many historic firsts for her.
Last year, Dosanjh turned into the main Punjabi craftsman to perform at Coachella live event. He made his television debut in June on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show.
