On Friday, Melanie Joly, the Canadian foreign minister, “alerted” the final Indian diplomats in the country that Canada will not tolerate any more criminal activity on its territory.
The admonition follows the removal recently of six Indian negotiators after Canada’s public police force said there is more than adequate proof of homicide and blackmail by specialists in Canada working on orders from New Delhi.
After being identified as a person of interest in the murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18, 2023, in British Columbia, the high commissioner of India was one of the people kicked out of Canada.
India has ordered six Canadian diplomats to leave the country and has vehemently denied the allegations.
However, Joly stated that evidence indicates that New Delhi has targeted Sikh separatists who want to establish a Sikh state in India through the use of criminals in Canada.
According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Joly stated at a news conference in Montreal, “There was definitely a threat, and that’s exactly why the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) decided to take the extraordinary measure of making public the fact that Canadians were being intimidated, victims of extortion, or even (received) death threats because agents and diplomats from India were linked to these criminal actions.” Joly was speaking at the event.
That has never happened before in our history. On Canadian soil, that level of international repression cannot occur.
