Following media reports that French footballer Kylian Mbappe was the subject of an investigation following a visit to Stockholm, Swedish prosecutors confirmed a rape investigation on Tuesday but did not name the suspect.
Following Mbappe’s two-day visit to the Nordic capital, Swedish newspapers Aftonbladet and Expressen reported on Monday that a rape investigation had been initiated.
“Because of media reports about a thought assault in Stockholm, the examiner can affirm that a crook report has been submitted to the police,” Sweden’s Indictment Authority said in a proclamation.
It also stated that the alleged incident took place on October 10 in a hotel, but it did not name a suspect or provide any additional details.
Expressen on Monday distinguished Mbappe as the suspect, refering to mysterious sources, while Aftonbladet said on Tuesday it had additionally acquired data affirming Mbappe was the suspect.
