A US man with a stacked handgun, a shotgun and a high-limit magazine was captured beyond the site where previous president Donald Trump tended to allies, police declared on Sunday.
Vem Miller, a 49-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada, resident, was the man arrested on Saturday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
Miller was taken into custody “without incident” at a checkpoint and booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Centre for possessing a handgun magazine with a high capacity and a loaded firearm.
According to the police, neither Trump’s safety nor the safety of rally attendees in Coachella, California, were affected by the incident.
Miller belonged to the far-right anti-government “Sovereign Citizen” movement, according to Riverside Sheriff Chad Bianco, who attended the rally on Saturday with his family. The fringe group denies that they are subject to any government authority without their explicit consent.
Bianco kept up with that sheriff’s delegates forestalled a third death endeavor on the previous president.
“I genuinely accept that we forestalled another death endeavor, and it was exclusively by our work of keeping such individuals out,” Bianco said. ” We are aware that we stopped a bad thing from happening. Also, unessential what terrible would have been.”
He didn’t say anything about a possible reason.
Miller was stopped at a checkpoint with multiple passports and driver’s licenses in his vehicle after deputies noticed “homemade” license plates on his vehicle that are typically associated with the sovereign citizen movement, according to Bianco.
He added that following the initial stop, a deputy “noticed that the interior of the vehicle was in quite disarray.” The authorities claimed that the unregistered black SUV contained shotgun and handgun ammunition.
Miller has since been released from custody ahead of the firearms charges’ trial in state court. Bianco stated that federal authorities would decide any additional charges.
The US Lawyer’s Office, US Secret Help and the Government Department of Examination gave a joint assertion where they said they knew about Saturday’s capture, and that “while no bureaucratic capture has been made as of now, the examination is progressing”.
Following Trump’s July shooting while addressing supporters in rural Pennsylvania, law enforcement has significantly increased security at Trump’s rallies ahead of the November election.
In September, authorities made a second attempt on his life when they apprehended a man outside of his West Palm Beach, Florida, golf course. They said the man had camped outside the facility for 12 hours before Secret Service officers found him with a long rifle sticking through a fence around the course.
