In a passionate appeal to black men, former US President Barack Obama has endorsed the Democratic candidate.
He criticized male voters for “coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses” not to support a woman for president during an unannounced visit to a Harris campaign field office in Pennsylvania, a swing state.
Later, Obama made fun of Donald Trump’s debut on the 2024 campaign trail for “crazy conspiracy theories, the two-hour speeches, word salad.”
Also on Thursday, the Republican candidate gave a speech in Michigan, a key battleground state, and said that if Harris wins, the country would be in “a mess.”
The presidential race in the United States is as tight as ever with only 25 days until election night, and a winner will likely be decided by ballots in a few closely contested states in the midwest and southwest.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) conducted a survey in September and found that one in four black men under the age of 50 said they would vote for Trump over Harris in November.
The first black president of the United States, Barack Obama, suggested that sexism was to blame for the hesitation that “seems to be more pronounced with the brothers.”
He stated, “I’ve got a problem with that.” Since I’m speaking directly to men, a portion of it gives me the impression that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and reasons for that.
