With 43,634 votes, PPP candidate Abdul Hakeem Baloch has won Malir’s NA-231 in Karachi, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s provisional results.
On the solicitation of PTI applicant Backer Khalid Mehmood, the political race council had chosen to hold relating at four surveying stations — PS 65, 71, 98, and 175.
At the polling place, PTI Sindh Secretary General Ali Pulh declared, “If there is a fair recount, this seat is ours.”
According to a PTI Sindh press release, “PPP thugs” entered the ECP’s office and set fire to the records, ballot boxes, and other documents.
Mehmood later stated over the phone to PTI leaders that “the PPP goons” took away his laptop, as stated in the statement.
PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh stated, “The people of PPP have stormed the office of the Election Commission out of fear of defeat.”
Sheikh claimed that Mehmood won NA-231, stating, “Illegal action has taken place in the presence of police and law enforcement agencies.”
According to the statement, he stated, “The people of PPP did not allow recounting on orders of the court.”
Imtiaz Ahmed Qureshi, the Regional Election Commissioner for Karachi, said in a statement that he was aware of the incident and that the recounting procedure was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
Unknown men “armed with weapons and sticks” forced their way into the office at approximately 11 a.m.
They “broke open the gates of the office and the Committee Room, where the recount was being done,” ransacked the office furniture, and took the ballots from four polling stations in Constituency NA-231 Malir III—stations 65, 71, 98, and 175—by force.
According to the statement, “the mob also burned down the said polling bags in front of [the] polling building.”
In addition, a substantial police contingent and police mobiles were stationed at the office during the recounting process.
“The mob attacked the office despite the presence of police and adequate security measures.”
According to Syed Asad Raza, the South Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), a first information report (FIR) has been filed against unknown criminals in response to the election commission office’s complaint.
The DIG stated, “Strict legal action would be taken against elements involved in rioting and hooliganism,” and added that the police are in contact with the complainant to obtain evidence using CCTV footage since the incident occurred at their location.
