In a briefing to the Standing Committee, the Secretary of IT announced that the auction for 5G spectrum in the country will take place next year. The committee also requested details of all properties leased or rented out by PTCL.
According to reports, a meeting of the National Assembly’s IT Committee was held under the chairmanship of Syed Amin ul Haq. During the briefing, the Secretary of IT mentioned that a consultant has been hired for the 5G spectrum auction, who will determine how many licenses will be auctioned and how many companies will receive the spectrum.
The Secretary stated that efforts are being made to acquire licenses as soon as possible and that services will begin in certain areas shortly. Telecom companies are also starting to consider upgrading their equipment for 5G.
During the meeting, committee member Dr. Mukhtar Bhurt asked how many properties PTCL has leased out. It was noted that petrol pumps and plazas have been constructed on PTCL land.
PTCL officials reported that 62% of PTCL’s shares are owned by the government and 26% by the Etisalat Group. The Standing Committee has requested details of all properties leased or rented out by PTCL.
