Billie Jean King, the renowned former world tennis champion, has become the first individual female athlete to be awarded the prestigious U.S. Congressional Gold Medal.
The honor was approved by both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives before being signed into law by President Joe Biden.
Previously, only nine individual athletes and the 1980 U.S. Olympic team had received this esteemed award.
Throughout her illustrious career, the 80-year-old Billie Jean King won a total of 39 Grand Slam titles across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.
