New York: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need for the UN Security Council to take on its fundamental responsibility of maintaining international peace and security.
Speaking at a high-level Security Council meeting on Ukraine at the UN headquarters in New York, Wang Yi stated that all parties must genuinely commit to promoting peace negotiations.
He presented three key proposals: first, recognizing the severity of the crisis to improve the situation; second, enhancing a sense of responsibility to promote peace talks and persuade all parties involved; and third, emphasizing the necessity of immediate awareness to contain the spillover effects of the crisis.
Wang Yi noted that President Xi Jinping has firmly pointed out the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, stressing adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
He stated that legitimate concerns of all countries should be taken seriously, and reasonable efforts should be supported to achieve a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
The Chinese Foreign Minister reiterated that China’s stance on the Ukraine issue has remained consistent and clear.
According to reports, Wang Yi also participated in the eighth round of the China-Latin America Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and held separate discussions with foreign ministers from Germany, France, Nauru, Australia, Switzerland, and Argentina, as well as U.S. Senator Coons, the foreign affairs advisor to the French president, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
