Mumbai: The historic Pataudi Palace, belonging to Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, is now valued at ₹8 billion. The palace was originally built by his grandfather, Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan, to impress his in-laws.
In a recent interview, Saif’s sister, Soha Ali Khan, revealed that their grandfather was deeply in love with Begum Sajida Sultan of Bhopal, but her father opposed the marriage.
Soha further explained that Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan, being a sports enthusiast, was not favored by his in-laws. To win them over, he had Pataudi Palace constructed in 1935. However, midway through construction, he ran out of funds, which is why some parts of the palace have marble flooring, while others are just cement.
She also shared an interesting tidbit about how Saif Ali Khan chose to cut costs by opting for a simple whitewash of the palace instead of a more expensive paint job.
