KOCHI: Indian actor and Member of Parliament M. Mukesh has been granted bail after being arrested in connection with a rape case involving a fellow actress.
According to Indian media reports, the actress filed a case against Mukesh, alleging rape and sexual assault. He was apprehended by a Special Investigation Team and subsequently released on bail.
Mukesh’s lawyer informed the media that a medical examination was conducted prior to his release. The Special Investigation Team interrogated the actor for two and a half hours. Mukesh has denied the allegations of rape, claiming that the case was filed against him because he refused to be blackmailed by the actress.
In recent days, multiple prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry have faced sexual harassment allegations, leading to dozens of FIRs being filed. These cases emerged following the release of a report by the Justice Hema Committee, which revealed that many actors and directors in the industry are involved in sexual exploitation.
