Mumbai: The film “Lapata Ladies,” directed by Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s ex-wife Kiran Rao, has achieved a significant honor.
According to Indian media reports, the Film Federation of India has announced that “Lapata Ladies” has been nominated in the International Film category for the Oscars 2025.
The report states that the film, produced under Aamir Khan’s production banner, was selected from a pool of 12 Hindi films, 6 Tamil films, and 4 Malayalam films.
Previously, Kiran Rao expressed to the media that if her film were nominated for the Oscars, it would fulfill her dream. She stated, “I hope the Oscars committee considers ‘Lapata Ladies,’ and surely the best film will be selected.”
Additionally, “Lapata Ladies” has reportedly broken the record set by Ranbir Kapoor’s “Animal.”
The film is based on an award-winning story by Bipulab Goswami, featuring performances by Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava, and Nethanshi Goel. It tells the story of a man whose bride goes missing during a train journey, leading him to bring home another bride whom he fails to recognize due to her veil.
It’s noteworthy that “Lapata Ladies,” which was released in theaters on March 1 of this year, was produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande.
