KARACHI: German philosopher Immanuel Kant once remarked, “The one who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in dealings with human beings.” This sentiment rings true for Faisal, a compassionate Karachi resident dedicated to feeding stray animals and birds.
Living in the Madrassah Society, Scheme 33, Faisal collects leftover food from wedding halls to nourish stray dogs, cats, and other animals. Professionally a pet food supplier, he also volunteers to care for strays in need.
His charitable efforts have inspired many locals to join his mission, contributing cooked or raw meat, chicken, and other food items. Faisal’s work extends to rescuing injured animals, including those hit by cars, and transporting them to shelters for medical treatment.
In an interview with The Express Tribune, Faisal shared that his journey began with a simple thought: “While humans can express their hunger, animals cannot.” This realization sparked his empathy and compelled him to take action.
Initially, Faisal gathered food scraps from chicken and beef shops, eventually expanding his efforts to include leftovers from wedding halls. Using his motorcycle for distribution, he is also supported by donors who provide high-quality imported pet food. Students have joined the cause, using their pocket money to buy food for the animals.
Though he cannot cover every area of Karachi, Faisal hopes his initiative will inspire others to take similar actions. In addition to feeding strays, he offers medical assistance by publicizing his mobile number, encouraging the community to contact him about injured or ill animals. He promptly transports these animals to a local shelter for the care they need.
