ISLAMABAD:At the ‘PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference,’ Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, reiterated the government’s dedication to using space technology to drive national progress. The conference marked the operationalisation of the PAKSAT-MM1 satellite.
Khawaja highlighted the satellite’s transformative potential for communication infrastructure, noting that it would enhance internet connectivity in remote areas and contribute to a digitally connected Pakistan. She emphasized that digitalisation and technological advancements are crucial for socio-economic growth.
The Minister also pointed out that Pakistan had improved its position in the UN’s e-governance development index, moving up 14 points and becoming one of only two Asian countries to transition from the middle to the high tier of digital e-governance.
Chairman SUPARCO, Muhammad Yousuf Khan, expressed pride in the team’s achievements, highlighting the satellite’s significant role in socio-economic development and strengthening Pakistan’s position in the global space sector. He urged local industries to engage in creating ecosystems for space-related activities. The conference underscored PAKSAT-MM1’s potential to bridge the digital divide and foster growth in underserved regions. Expected to remain operational for over 15 years, the satellite will provide high-speed broadband and other critical services.
