Eva Mendes appeared on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* to promote her debut children’s book, *Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries*. During her appearance, she also discussed her husband Ryan Gosling’s hosting role on *Saturday Night Live* earlier this year.
Mendes expressed her excitement, saying, “I was so excited! I was backstage… it’s incredible.” She particularly enjoyed the sketches “Can’t Tonight” and “Beavis and Butt-Head.” In “Can’t Tonight,” Gosling portrayed a man with a Cuban accent after marrying a Cuban woman, which Mendes found especially funny. She shared, “With Cuban Papi, the thing that was so funny is my dad actually doesn’t speak English, and this isn’t like oh, he speaks a little. No, he doesn’t speak English… And he’s been in the country 50-something years.”
Mendes humorously demonstrated how Gosling and her father communicate, adding, “So after what, 12 years, it finally paid off.”
Following the SNL episode, Mendes took to Instagram to praise Gosling, saying, “My Cuban Papi made this Cuban Mami so happy with this.” She also acknowledged SNL cast members Marcello Hernandez and Kenan Thompson, expressing enthusiasm for their future collaborations.
Mendes and Gosling, who met while filming *The Place Beyond the Pines* in 2012, have two daughters, Esmeralda Amada (9) and Amada Lee (7). Despite their private relationship, they show subtle support for each other’s work, including Mendes’ post after Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars.
