King Charles has expressed profound shock and sadness over the catastrophic flooding that has ravaged central Europe. In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, His Majesty conveyed his concern: “My wife and I are profoundly shocked and saddened to see the destruction and devastation caused by the catastrophic flooding in central Europe.”
Acknowledging the strong ties between the UK and the affected regions, he added, “Together with them, my wife and I send our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to all those who have so tragically lost their loved ones, their homes, and their livelihoods.”
The King also praised the “sheer courage and dedication” of emergency service workers, who have been tirelessly assisting those impacted by the floods, and commended their relentless efforts in providing essential support and relief.
The floods, triggered by heavy rains earlier this month, have severely affected countries like the Czech Republic, Poland, and Romania. In northern Italy, torrential rains in the Emilia-Romagna region forced thousands of evacuations as rivers overflowed in towns like Ravenna, Bologna, and Faenza.
So far, 23 lives have been lost due to the floods, with casualties reported in Poland, Romania, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
King Charles’s poignant message follows a tribute he recently paid to his son, Prince Harry, on his 40th birthday, further highlighting his commitment to addressing pressing humanitarian crises.
