NANKANA SAHIB: In a counter-terrorism operation on Wednesday, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) killed three terrorists and saw two others escape. The terrorists had opened fire on the CTD team, and in the ensuing exchange of fire, the terrorists were reportedly killed by their own comrades.
The CTD recovered three grenades, three detonators, safety fuse wire, two rifles, ammunition, and explosives from the terrorists. A search operation is ongoing to capture the two escaped terrorists, with a picket set up near Motorway Nankana Interchange A. The identification process for the deceased terrorists is currently underway.
The terrorists were reportedly planning a major attack on Lahore. This operation comes amidst a rise in terrorist incidents across Pakistan, with 59 attacks reported nationwide in August compared to 38 in July, according to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS).
Last week, the CTD Punjab arrested nine terrorists following 71 intelligence-based operations across the province. Additionally, two terrorists were killed in Dera Ghazi Khan during an operation on Friday.
