King Charles has finally opened up about his health in anticipation of his much-awaited foreign trip. The 75-year-old monarch, who has been cleared by doctors to travel to Australia, shared insights into his health and the guidance he has received from his medical team.
During a meeting with New Zealand’s women’s rugby union team at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday evening, the King offered a rare health update. He revealed that he would not be able to visit New Zealand during his upcoming tour in October due to “doctor’s orders.”
This marks the first time Prince William and Prince Harry’s father has spoken about his health since his daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, announced that she is no longer undergoing chemotherapy.
Expressing his regret to the Black Ferns, King Charles said, “I am extremely sorry I can’t come to New Zealand in late October because of doctor’s orders. But I hope there will be another excuse before too long.”
His candid remarks suggest that he continues to undergo treatment for an unspecified form of cancer, which was publicly acknowledged by the Palace in February 2024.
Despite these health concerns, Buckingham Palace has released the itinerary for King Charles and Queen Camilla’s upcoming trip to Australia and Samoa, which is scheduled to start on October 18.
The King also shared a lighthearted moment with the young athletes, saying, “I hope you make the most of your time in the team because you don’t stay young for very long. As I discovered, it all goes quicker than you think.”
He concluded warmly, “Anyway, I do hope you have great success.”
