Reports have emerged that a group of social media influencers was recruited and paid tens of thousands of dollars to launch a smear campaign against Kamala Harris, shortly after she became the Democratic presidential nominee.
In late July, influencers promoting conservative views received an email titled “War Room – Kamala Messaging,” which reportedly instructed them to post derogatory and sexual comments about Harris in exchange for substantial payments via Zelle.
A Zoom call, organized by someone identified as “James Bacon,” was held with anonymous participants, though one recognized former Republican Congressman George Santos. Santos, who confirmed to The Independent that he joined the call out of curiosity, left the meeting after objecting to the proposed lewd comments, describing them as “disgusting and unbecoming of the political process.”
The campaign also urged influencers to target figures such as Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over Trump’s New York trial, and to accuse the Biden administration of weaponizing the government against conservatives.
Receipts reviewed by Semafor indicated that some influencers received up to $20,000 for their involvement. While the source of the funding remains unclear, some participants suggested it came from an unnamed wealthy American.
