Nissan (France) has achieved a remarkable feat by setting the world record for the highest car bungee jump. The stunt, performed on August 12 in Puteaux, France, reached an impressive height of 65 meters (213 feet 3 inches).
To qualify for the record, the jump had to exceed a minimum height of 65 meters. The vehicle used for this daring stunt was the Nissan Qashqai e-Power, a model previously celebrated for its advancements in the SUV category.
Jérôme Biguet, Nissan’s Marketing Director, highlighted that the bungee jump was a natural progression for the Qashqai, which has previously been featured in TV ads showcasing activities such as skateboarding and surfing.
The stunt involved extensive planning over a month, including the construction of a custom platform to hold the car both horizontally and at a 45-degree angle to build momentum for the jump. The car’s interior was stripped to reduce weight, and a specially designed bungee with eight ropes was used to control the car’s descent distance and speed.
The setup required a crane and a cage to stabilize the car. The attempt took place in the intense heat of 38°C (100.4°F) in the Paris Business District. French race car driver and stuntman Laurent Lasko was behind the wheel during the jump.
After the car descended and rebounded in a typical bungee fashion, it was gradually lowered back to the ground. Both the car and the bungee cord had to remain intact for the attempt to be considered a success. Official Adjudicator Prav Patel confirmed the new world record after a thorough inspection.
Nissan plans to use this record to promote the Qashqai e-Power, emphasizing its unique and extraordinary features.
